History


Assisted living is the oldest field of activity of AQUA Mühle Vorarlberg. It is the area where the history of AQUA Mühle started.

Assisted living was launched by Waltraud Moser and Iris Alge in 1987. The first external shared accommodation in addition to the Mühlegasse residential home was established as early as in 1989. Mrs Moser passed away in 1994, while on duty, and Thomas Vogel took over the management of the home. The Mühlegasse Residential Home Association (in German “Verein Wohnheim Mühlegasse”) was then formed. The connection to the Mühlegasse Association is still reflected today by the name AQUA Mühle Vorarlberg. At first, financing was handled by the social welfare department of the Feldkirch District Authority.

In 2005, several services such as the Mühlegasse Residential Home Association, the company “Phönix Werkstatt für Soziales” and the job initiative “BIF Beschäftigungsinitiative Frastanz” merged and became “aqua mühle frastanz soziale dienste gemeinnützige gGmbH”. The residential home and the other houses for people in need of assistance were staffed by employees of the division “Assisted Living“.

In 2006, the project “Vorarlberg Care Assistance” was launched together with our partners, the Vorarlberg Federal State Government and the Vorarlberg branch of the Austrian Employment Service. The support provided by “aqua residential homes” formed an important part of the Vorarlberg care system until 2016.

In 2011, the new division “Assisted Living 60+“ was opened following the more detailed differentiation of the individual services provided. This allowed creating places for elderly clients that met their requirements and reflected the original idea of providing a real home to people. Moreover, the time spent in assisted living accommodation by clients with a higher resources potential could be reduced. It has always been, and still is, our goal to help people return to their own homes with a suitable social environment.

The designation “Assisted Living“ was changed to “Housing – Living independently“ because the care was adapted to clients’ individual needs and because the services offered affect all areas of life.
